December in 4th Class

What a fantastic month it has been in 4th Class, full of Christmas magic, creative clay decorations and of course…decimals!

In Maths, we have tackled problem solving with Money. This required us to use previous learning including: formal methods for + – x / , decimal place value and rounding. We also looked at our division tables, applying all the knowledge of our multiplication tables to help us. Next month, we look forward to tackling long multiplication and Symmetry.

Christmas is such a magical and enchanting time of year. We used this to inspire our Art and Writing. We created fantastic Christmas stories, focusing on setting description using powerful adjectives and adverbs. We used clay and clay tools in art to create a Christmas-inspired piece. They ranged from reindeer to snowmen to Christmas trees.

In Gaeilge lessons, Christmas magic continued. We sang many Christmas songs as well as reading Christmas stories and poems. It was so lovely learning “Fada Uainn an Nollaig” for our Christmas Video. All children tackled the lyrics with ease and spent the month of December singing these songs as Gaeilge!
Maith sibh gach duine!
In Music lessons, drums, xylophones, shakers and tambourines helped to shake the frost off the windows. Things got very loud and groovy as we created sounds in pods and put them together to create a collective piece. We also looked at ideas for making homemade instruments. It was fantastic to see some homemade instruments shared on our Teams page. ‘Ireland’s Got Talent’ here we come…..
Tune in next month to see what 4th Class get up to next!
