December in 6th Class

December has been a busy and interesting month for 6th Class. We have covered a range of topics and had insightful conversations. We prepared well for our Winter Concert and had great fun on the run up to the Christmas break.

Literacy – We delved into narrative writing this month where the children created fabulous pieces of writing. We also reacted to images and wrote short stories/scenes from a visual stimulus.

Gaeilge – For Gaeigle this month we developed our essay and short story writing skills. Utilising a collection a verbs and vocabulary, we created essays on going to the cinema and meeting our friends.

Maths – The topics we focused on this month in Maths were Length, Multiplication with decimals and revision of the whole term. The children also completed their Christmas test and their results are posted on Teams.

Our general theme this month was Winter and Christmas. We got very creative and completed many art projects in class. We even had our own art competition where we created Christmas drawings for John Conway’s (Rose’s dad) auctioneer office. On the last Friday of the term the children wore their Pajamas into school and we watched a film with some hot chocolate. On Monday, we opened our Secret Santa presents. Needless to say we all went home very happy!!

This month we held our annual House Captain elections. I am very proud of the children that put themselves forward and spoke to all children and staff from 3rd Class up to 6th via Zoom. The children spoke brilliantly and created fantastic speeches. Successful House Captains from our class are: Rose Conway (House Water); Seán Forde (House Air) and Brandon Langford (House Fire).

Thank you all for your support over the course of this unusual, but fantastic, term. We are looking forward to what the Spring Term will bring!
