We had a very busy but fun month this December. We wrote our own Christmas stories and then made them into lovely books to share with our friends and families. In Gaeilge, we learned lots of new vocabulary and phrases relating to Christmas and we are still working hard on reading and writing the 200 Irish high-frequency words. We learned two new songs in Gaeilge: Bualadh Bos (which goes to the tune of Jingle Bells) and Nollaig Álainn. In Maths, we have continued to deepen our knowledge and understanding of money and we have learned how to add and subtract amounts of money and also how to use subtraction to calculate change. This will be very useful during Christmas shopping I am sure! Not to forget that we also continued learning our times tables of 3s and 4s. In January we will begin the 6 times tables.
Using the globe and map of the world, we discussed the Northern Hemisphere and located some of the countries and their capitals that fall into this category. We discussed the amazing phenomenon of the Northern Lights which can be seen from some of these countries. You can see the lovely chalk pastel drawings we made in response to looking at images of the beautiful Aurora Borealis. We also read about ancient Roman society and decided that we would much rather live in today’s society which is decidedly more equal!
We really enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit by way of learning our Christmas Songs and preparing for recording our Winter Wonderland video.
All in all, I think it has been a wonderful term of hard work, friendship and learning and I am looking forward to getting back to school in January to continue the second term of 3rd class with more fun and learning. Merry Christmas to everyone and here’s to a great 2021!!!
